Welcome to Beggarswap.com!
BeggarSwap was started in order to help people trade and give away their unwanted items in an effort to keep those items out of landfills. I like to think of it as recycling and one little step towards helping to improve our planet! If you trade an item then you purchase less, use less consumer level packaging, and have prevented an item from ending up at the garbage dump before its time. Not to mention, you might get yourself quite a deal!

Ideally, I would like to see people trade items on BeggarSwap.com, but I understand there are times you won't want to trade, so the For Sale option is there also. Please do consider trading first, however. If you don't know what you'd like in return for your item, browse the 'Wanted' section for ideas, if nothing comes to mind, just put in your description that you'd also be interested in trading and to make you an offer.

All ads that are posted on BeggarSwap.com are soley between the Buyer and Seller of the items. It is your responsibility to handle your trades and sales yourself. Beggarswap is ONLY the free place to advertise your items, BeggarSwap does not get in to the middle of your deal. BeggarSwap does not arbitrate if an issue arises in your trade. Please trade carefully and responsibly. Please live up your to your end of your agreements, accurately describe your items and everyone will have happy trades. If you do not trade in person, I would highly recommend using Priority Mail and not the lesser expensive shipping methods as the cheaper shipping tends to allow things to disappear without ever arriving at its destination.

All advertised items must be legitimate, tangable items. Ads which appear to be spam will be promptly deleted. Items of an adult, X-rated type of nature are not allowed on BeggarSwap.com. This is a family oriented website. If you find ads posted which are of a questionable nature, please use the 'report ad' feature which appears on every ad and I will handle it. Please do not contact the seller on your own.

I plan to add an additional feature in the future which will allows us to do Feedback on the sellers and buyers, much like Ebay has. However, the BeggarSwap website must first get established and start earning its keep. Please visit our advertisers and shop on their sites using the links provided. You'll see the ads throughout the website, mainly Ebay and Amazon.com, but there are others. They pay BeggarSwap for advertising when you shop on their websites using the links on this website. Once there is capital being earned by BeggarSwap, then I will pay to have the new features written and installed.

Your member account and ads are free with Beggarswap.com. If you would like to add a little snazziness to your ads, you can upgrade them for a small fee:

A Featured Ad will allow your ad to appear in the Featured section on the front page for $1.00.
A Sponsored Ad will appear as the first ad in its selected category for $2.00.
A Custom ad will display a lot more information about the ad when it appears as a listing on the front page and in its category. You have various choices on the look, but the basic display is all the same for custom ads. 50 cents.

Upgrading your ads not only make your ad stand out, it also helps BeggarSwap.com pay the bills. So everybody wins! In order to upgrade your ads, you will first need to make a payment to put money in your account. You will see the "make a single payment" link in the "my control panel" area.

Happy Trading and Selling, cleaning out the garage and helping to improve mother earth!

Login and registration issues
Why should I register? top
Only registered members are allowed to run ads and contact people who are running ads.
To register, you will need to specify a username and password, and a valid email address. Entering your email address will not leave you open to 'spam', as you can choose to hide your email address, and messages sent to you via email do not reveal your address to the sender in any case. (To verify this, you can try sending an email message to another user.) The final part of the registration process is by email, so ensure that the email address you provide is valid and working.
Why can't I login? top
Have you registered? Seriously, you must register in order to login. Have you been suspended from the system (a message will be displayed if you have)? If so then you should contact the webmaster to find out why. If you have registered and are not suspended and you still cannot login then check and double check your username and password. Usually this is the problem, if not then contact the webmaster. They may have incorrect configuration settings for the system.
Why do I get logged off automatically? top
If you do not select "yes" on the "Automatically login when you return to the site?" on your profile preferences then this system will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in select "yes" on the above. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc.
I've lost my password! top
Don't panic! You can retrieve your password easily. To do this go to the login page and click "I've forgotten my password", follow the instructions and you should be back online in no time.

User preferences and settings
How do I change my settings? top
All your settings (if you are registered) are stored in the database. To alter them click the "Profile" link (generally shown at the left hand of pages but this may not be the case) and click on "Preferences". This will allow you to change all your settings
Does this board use cookies? top
The use of cookies on this system is required to track your current session, ensuring that you remain logged-on while browsing the site. However, unless you choose to log in always, your cookies are removed within a preset time.
How do I clear my cookies? top
You may clear all your cookies by logging out. If you return to the main index page via the link provided and you are still logged in, you may have to remove your cookies manually.
How can I change the information in my profile? top
It is your responsibility to keep the information in your profile up-to-date. You should especially ensure that your email address is kept current. To change your profile, click on the "Profile" link, usually located to the left hand of pages and click on "Update profile" link. You can alter any of the fields in your profile, except your username.
How do I prevent my username appearing in the online user listings? top
In your preferences you will find an option to be in "Invisible Mode", if you switch this on you'll not be visible by other members as online. You will be counted as a hidden user.
